Question? = Answer!

I can tell you now I will not always have all the answers, but I will be as informed as possible. When a time comes and I do not know the answer, I will research it until I find it and get back to the child or parent in a timely manner. I am not ashamed to admit I may not know. My dad always told me there is no shame in not knowing - only shame in being too prideful to admit you do not know. I am finding out that gaining knowledge is a fun, but never ending process.I would be setting myself up for failure to think I will know it all just from going to school.Everyone should be willing to take on new challenges and learn. I always say - " you learn something new everyday!"

My Teaching Philosophy.

I believe to be a teacher you have to have a love for your students and a love for your job, not just sometimes but all the time, not just the good years, but the hard years too! A teacher faces many struggles, but you must remember the influence we have one each and every child. You never now what may be the life changing point for any one student. A student does not want to sit in a classroom all day with a teacher who does not want to be there. A teacher should be inventive and constantly coming up with new ways to keep the class excited about learning something new! You have got to keep the class interested. The students will learn better and be happier when learning seems fun! My job as a teacher will be to have the child's best interest at hand. As a parent myself, I feel it is important that the parents are always informed.you should always keep your student's parents informed.

Acceptance - loving the hard to love

Something I am still learning and working on is loving the hard to love.Often I think we view children in their small little bodies and hear their small little phrases and forget that their feeling can be, and are, as big as ours.It is important to stay mindful of each individuals feelings, no matter how much they are driving you crazy one day. One of my goals as a teacher is to focus on treating, loving and respecting each child exactly the same, regardless of their appearance or abilities or personalities. I am going to try my best not be a teacher who shows favoritism.I think a child must be secure in their surroundings in order to develop to their full potential. If I show less interest in one student then I do in another, then I believe this may hinder a child from developing into his full potential.

Technolgoy - Don't be scared!

Thanks to my EDM 310, I am more prepared than ever for bringing new technology into my classroom. Before this semester I would have never thought I would use much of the new technology with small children, but I have learned ways to use it all!I most recently learned hot to Skype, and now I am always trying to find a new friend who has it so we can chat.Learning how to blog has probably been the most beneficial aspect of this class for me.This is definitely a tool that I will want to use to correspond with my students and their parents. I will be able to basically have our class calendar on a blog to update constantly for my parents. Each person in our class made a slide show in Google Docs about his or her self and that was a really neat project. This would be a fun way to maybe teach a lesson. I can also blog about special events and others in the school can get on my classes blog to see our news.I used Facebook prior to this class but I never, ever thought about using it for the classroom, but how wonderful it will be! I have been truly amazed at how much I will be using what I have learned in my classroom.

Staying Connected

I cannot stress how important I feel the involvement a parent needs to have with their child, teacher, and school. Staying connected with the teacher and school will have a huge impact on the child's learning and progress.Make sure you get involved in your child's PTO/PTA. These groups will hold meetings that will keep you abreast on what your child is doing in his or her classroom and what else is going on throughout the school.A teacher can always set up a class blog that will keep parents informed in between PTO meetings about things such as homework, exams and projects. Each parent has to want to see their child succeed. Remember that your child needs the parents help as much as the teachers to do so.Everyone wants what is best for the student!

Rules, Rules, and more Rules!

This is a subject that my three year old is testing me on every single day and some days more than others. We all need structure, rules, discipline and routines in our lives. Children need these things even more so than us. I believe that it is crucial that all of this be at the for front of every classroom. I plan to teach young children and if I can not maintain order in my class then we will never be able to move forward with lesson plans. If I am unable to follow a routine then the children will find our day to day activities more hectic.A teacher must uphold rules and enforce discipline everyday with each child, this will not only lead to better behaved children but also more opportunities for the children to learn.
